The proposed Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Airport Road and Godfrey Road will have enormous negative environmental, economic and traffic impacts on our Village. The Village Board rushed to approve the project without considering the effects, the few study results that exist, or have the proper studies done. The project is currently under review by several federal agencies. The Army Corps of Engineers is studying the effects of covering over of Rocky Creek, which feeds directly into the Piasa River, and the Dept. of Natural Resources is also considering the environmental impacts of the project. The Village also failed to do an economic impact study, or seriously consider the jobs and small businesses that will be lost with the opening of this new store.
Over 800 residents signed petitions asking the Village to do the proper studies… THEY WERE IGNORED!
Now the potential approval is in the hands of these large federal agencies. Without their approval the project cannot happen. We must make them listen to our concerns!
We feel that the Village Board, the developer, and Wal-Mart are acting irresponsibly. They should never have approved this project, and we plan to do everything we can to make sure all the facts are considered before they force this monster on our community.
We need to work together!
We are asking residents, business owners, students, union members, and property owners to join with us to make sure the studies are done, and the voice of the community is not ignored…. AGAIN.

We will update you with new information about the project, and things you can do to help protect our environment, jobs, and local economy.
